 | Bruce has been a long time resident of San Francisco since 1994. He has worked on many causes and with community organizations. He is a product of SF public education having attended City College of SF from and SF State University from earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Social Work.
Bruce was recently reappointed unanimously by the SF Board of Supervisors and Mayor to the prestigious Sunshine Ordinance Task Force.
Bruce also serves on the important Prop H School Enrichment Fund Community Advisory Committee appointed by SF Unified School District Commissioner Eric Mar that oversees nearly half billion dollars of city funds over ten years to arts, libraries, music, sports, pre-kindergarten, nurses, social workers and in-kind services.
In his third year, his work with fellow directors on the board of the SF Community Land Trust resulted in creating limited equity housing for long time residents in Chinatown who were being threatened with eviction at the proposed City College Chinatown campus.
Bruce just finished serving on the 18-month study, Eastern Neighborhoods Community Health Impact Assessment that produced the nation’s first rezoning tool of specific scope on the environment. It is currently being considered by San Francisco for adoption to its rezoning plans.
Bruce currently serves on the Municipal Transit Agency’s Transit Effectiveness Project and 18-month effort along with the City Controller’s Office whose goals are to improve MUNI’s overall performance, create a blueprint for future service, affordability and create a multi-year plan.
Bruce serves as board member or representative on many community boards and groups such as the Sierra Club, SF Community Land Trust, Voters Injured At Work, SF Peoples Organization and the Coalition for Transit Justice. He co-founded Progressive Voter Project that helps increase SF voter registration with a focus on absentee voters. Bruce serves as the SF Ambassador of Voters Injured At Work that advocates for injured workers in the California Worker’s Compensation System in addition as the Education & Training Coordinator for the National Association of Social Workers’ Social Action/Social Justice Council. He also serves on the SF Community Alliance of Disability Advocates and was a founding member of SF Peoples Organization, a community service association of nearly 40 local community organizations and unions.
