About Shane Brinton
Job History:
I was born and raised in Arcata and I love this place. My girlfriend Monica and I live downtown, just a few blocks from the Plaza. I currently serve on the Northern Humboldt Union High School District Board of Trustees, making me the youngest elected official in the county.
I've been a grassroots community organizer ever since I was a teenager. I've been involved with The Placebo, Democracy Unlimited, The Tenants Union of Humboldt County, the Redwood Peace & Justice Center, Food Not Bombs, and a number of other organizations and causes. I have also managed the campaigns of local progressive candidates.
Important Issues:
JOBS: Local economic development, living wages, and workers' rights.
HOUSING: Affordable homes and strong legal protections for renters.
SUSTAINABILITY: Bike trails, public transportation, and alternative energy.
Why Vote For Me:
If you know me or you have heard about my candidacy, you probably know that I'm a Democrat. So you might be wondering why I have a profile here, on a page for Green Party candidates. The answer is that I am the only candidate in this race endorsed by both the local Democratic Party and the local Green Party.
I'm running for Arcata City Council because I want to make sure that middle class and low income people can survive and thrive here. This is an amazing place with much to be proud of, but it is also a very expensive place to live. Many working families, students, and seniors on fixed incomes struggle to stay in Arcata.
As your councilmember I will work with you to keep Arcata a place that we can all be proud of. We can counter the high cost of living by creating good jobs and quality affordable housing. We can counter global warming and rising fuel prices by working for sustainable transportation, bicycle trails, and renewable energy.
As a community organizer, I have the vision and grassroots experience to move these issues forward. That's why I'm the only candidate supported by both the Democrats and Greens. And it's why I'm supported by organized labor, affordable housing advocates, bicycle and public transportation activists, and a number of progressive elected officials.
I would be honored to have your vote on November 4th. Together we can keep Arcata prosperous, livable, and beautiful.
