The Campaign Song

For the first time the volunteer in my campaign, Stephen Amy, came to a meeting of the Portland Metro Chapter of the Pacific Green Party at the Bipartisan Cafe on Southeast Stark Street here in Portland.

Stephen has been distributing my one-page statement of why I'm running, along with a brochure, illustrated with a dove, that he made up using information he received from the head of the national Green Party ticket, Cynthia McKinney.

He and I put our heads together to arrange to produce a similar brochure, with my picture on it, for my campaign for United States Congressman from the 3rd District. While we did so, the cheers of the attendees at the Republican National Convention rang out as background, for the Bipartisan Cafe had a widescreen TV set ...

About Michael Meo

Job History:
Michael Meo for US House of RepresentativesI am a math teacher and historian of science. Currently I serve as teacher and department chair of mathematics at Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, and as adjunct professor of mathematics at Portland State University. You can visit the webpage that gives access to my scholarly work at the Benson Polytechnic site,

Important Issues:
OregonIf the most important issue for you in this election is alternative means of transportation, by all means vote for my opponent, Earl Blumenauer. He's a national leader on that subject, with decades of activity and accomplishment, and I am a teacher of mathematics.
If the issue that is most important to you is the War in Iraq, and even worse how the Democratic Party, including my opponent, continues to vote to fund that illegal, aggressive war, then I guarantee you in no uncertain terms that I will not vote, if elected, to fund war. I have done two years of imprisonment for my opposition to the War in Vietnam, 1970-1972, and I will not go along with any military adventures the United States government dreams of entering, unless this country were to be invaded.

I support House Resolution 676, sponsored by dozens of House members (but not my opponent) establishing equal access to health care for all residents. The demeaning and ineffective system of parceling out health care on the basis of ability to pay cripples our society.

From several decades of work as and educator, I know from experience that more mandated tests aren't going to do a thing to improve education, and support for children at risk will. Free, quality childcare -- as well as health care -- is a minimal beginning; we will improve our educational system so long as we focus on the needs of our kids, not some implied punishment of their teachers.

Why Vote For Me:
Michael Meo for Green PartyI am the one candidate committed to peace. Not peace unless they agree to the president we have selected for them, or the party we have selected to speak for them, but peace plain and simple. I do not see the United States as the example of the one best form of government for all. The first thing we must do is to begin to dismantle our Empire.

I have taught for decades in schools with inner-city kids from all backgrounds and ethnic groups. Their success in life is my vocation.

Listen to my election speeches at See whether I am truthful and honest. Then vote for me for that reason.

Candidates who are running as endorsed greens or running non-partisan campaigns that are supported by the Green Party, from local to national office, may have a free web site through this page.
Green and Green-friendly campaigns that already have a web site, may still be listed in our directory with a link to their official election site.  Green candidates with little or no campaign budgets and no technical support can still have their qualifications, issues, and contact information available online.
