|I had been working with Mi Familia Vota, a voter engagement project trying to get Hispanics to vote more as well as be more civically engaged. |
*Keystone Pipeline will send its content to Valero refinery a few block from my district, but fallout will contaminate my district and increase to Houston's 'cancer corridor' which is the result of petrochemical refineries' emissions.
*Fracking in TX.
*Gov. Perry's opposition to EPA regulations being enforced in TX.
*No contaminants into waterways, whether injection wells or undisclosed dispersal chemicals dumped into Gulf in BP's disaster. We need full disclosure of chemicals first, banning as many dispersals as possible.
*NO GMOs! a first step is just to label them. Ideally they should be banned or at least prevent them from being grown in a state by state basis.
*end the School to Prison Pipeline.
*Citizen's review board with subpoena powers.
*Immigration Reform and no profiling of all Hispanics as illegals who need to prove citizenship on the spot or be arrested.
*I am for single payer programs.
* Texas needs to allow expanded Medicare funds to come here. Gov. Perry is blocking them at the moment.
|Why Vote For Maria Selva:|
|I grew up in Sen 6 district. From a Green perspective, I am the only candidate in this race who is paying attention to the massive indirect price we, the people, have to pay for industry's profit. We have a 'cancer corridor' in Houston already. Now toxic Tarsands will be brought from Canada, throughout the US to be processed in Houston. We will have immediate health repercussions.
The other candidates are pretending to represent this constituency while letting them be poisoned. That is not adequate representation of the people's interests.
Temporary jobs the pipeline would create are not adequate compensation for the attack on the people's health.
