| The budget shortfall of billions of dollars is the result of not keeping on top of revenue shortfalls related to the economic slowdown. The Lieutenant Governor should function as a leader who will let the people know about the need for revenues and work in the Texas Senate to develop revenue plans and educate the public on these plans. It is imperative that the Lieutenant Governor receive and demand frequent reliable statistics on the financial status of the state and to create in the Senate an ethic of service to the people and not to coddling corporations and monied interests that are acting against the common good.
