David Bedell Election Campaign

Registrar of Voters

David Bedell for Registrar of Voters I am running as a Green for Registrar of Voters.
City: Stamford
County: Fairfield
State: Connecticut
Election Day: Tuesday, November 4, 2008
Elected: No Results Yet

About David Bedell

Job History:
David Bedell for Registrar of VotersEXPERIENCE
  • Registering voters since 1986 (Project VOTE, Chester, Penna.)
  • Taught citizenship classes to aspiring U.S. citizens in Bridgeport and New Haven
  • Member of CT Green Party since 1996, Secretary of Fairfield County chapter since 2002

Important Issues:
ConnecticutDEDICATION TO DEMOCRACY
  • Make sure that every Stamford citizen is allowed to vote—no mysterious cleaning of the voter lists as in Florida in 2000 or Ohio in 2004.
  • Make voter registration and change-of-address forms available in all town offices, libraries, etc. Organize voter registration drives in the community.
  • Encourage resident immigrants to apply for U.S. citizenship and take part in the democratic process.
  • Fully implement the Voting Rights Restoration Act of 2001. - Convicted felons who have served their time should be reintegrated into society, including the body politic.

ADVOCACY FOR REFORM
  • Reliable manual audits of the new electronic voting machines.
  • Public financing of municipal elections, like New Haven's pilot Democracy Fund—government should not be up for sale to the biggest spender.
  • Instant Runoff Voting (IRV)—no candidate should be elected without 50% of the vote. We need more people to run for office, without fear of “spoiling” another candidate.
  • Voter registration forms at all U.S. Post Offices. Why does Uncle Sam provide forms for income tax and draft registration, but not voter registration?
  • Election Day Registration for last-minute voters who recently moved or were mistakenly dropped from the lists.
  • The Legislature has already passed this bill (with strict ID requirements to safeguard against fraud), but it was either vetoed or tabled. Now it's time to get this done.

Why Vote For Me:
David Bedell for Green PartyConnecticut election law mandates that every town have a Democrat and a Republican registrar of voters, but it also allows a town to have THREE registrars. If you elect me, you will not be voting to replace one of the existing registrars, but instead you will get a THIRD registrar helping to ensure fair elections.

Green and Green-friendly campaigns that already have a web site, may still be listed in our directory with a link to their official election site.  Green candidates with little or no campaign budgets and no technical support can still have their qualifications, issues, and contact information available online.
