About Angel Torres
| Job History: | |
| A 23-year airline employee, I served on my bargaining unit's first contract negotiating committee (2005-07), and have been a union shop steward (Teamsters Local 104) since 2005.
I have been a registered Green since 1992. I have served as the co-chair of the Green Party of Maricopa County (GPMC) since February 2004, and as the co-chair of the Arizona Green Party (AZGP) since September 2004. I have been actively involved in the past 2 ballot status petition drives (2008 and 2010) for AZGP, collecting over 870 signatures in 2008, and more than 2000 signatures in 2010. I attended the 2008 Green Party-US Presidential Nominating Convention in Chicago, and served as the AZGP delegation chair. I am a former member of the Green Party-US Fundraising Committee (2006-08), and a current member of the Green Party-US Latina/o Caucus (2008-10). I'm a native Arizonan, and graduated from Arizona State University (1986) with a B.A in Organizational Communication.
| Important Issues: | |
| My three main campaign issues are: Building a strong Arizona economy, ecological wisdom (protecting our environment), and social justice.
1) Building a strong Arizona economy: I want to bring the voice of the working-class/labor to the State Legislature. Because of this "Great Recession", I believe it is critical that my fellow Arizonans understand the importance/necessity of being a union member--job security, better wages and benefits, and a grievance procedure to handle disputes with management. If we want a strong Arizona economy, we need a strong middle-class/working class. And, in my opinion, if we want a strong middle-class/working class here in Arizona, we need strong, visible unions.

| Endorsements:
* Arizona Green Party (AZGP)--May 29th, 2010 * Andrew Marshall--Secretary/Treasurer, International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), Local 104 (Phoenix, AZ) For almost 30 years (since I was a student at Arizona State University), I have been organizing for positive social change at school, at my job, in my community, and for our nation and world. At my job, I advocated/organized for a union for 17 years (with 4 different unions, and 2 elections with the Teamsters--we lost the first one). During those years, I was one of the original organizing committee members. On August 17th, 2004, I and my 3500 co-workers were victorious--we became Teamsters that day! Since then, I have served as a member of our first contract negotiating committee, and as a union shop steward (see Job History section for further union credentials). In my community, I have advocated/organized for environmental justice and immigrant rights. In 1992-93, I was a member of the Concerned Residents of South Phoenix. This community group was formed in the aftermath of a toxic chemical fire at the Quality Printed Circuits (QPC) manufacturing plant at 16th Street & Roeser Road. Our community group met almost weekly with city, county and state representatives to address the health concerns of residents that had been affected by this chemical fire.

Candidates who are running as endorsed Greens or running non-partisan campaigns that are supported by the Green Party, from local to national office, may have a free web site through this page.
Green and Green-friendly campaigns that already have a web site, may still be listed in our directory with a link to their official election site. Green candidates with little or no campaign budgets and no technical support can still have their qualifications, issues, and contact information available online.
I am running as a Green for State Representative in AZ.
